for
The Rocky Horror Show
Kaimuki High School
Performing Arts Center holds auditions for its spring musical production of “The Rocky
Horror Show” December 11-13. Students enrolled at any public school on
KHSPAC is looking for
committed young actors, singers, and dancers for the cast of The Rocky
Horror Show.
The Rocky Horror Show,
with music, lyrics, and book by Richard O’Brien, is a story of self discovery
and being true to your own nature. It is
also a humorous tribute to the science fiction B movies of the 1950s. The musical tells the story of newly engaged
couple, Brad Majors and Janet Weiss, who take shelter from a storm in an old
castle – which happens to be inhabited by mad-scientist-alien, Dr. Frank N. Furter,
who is about to unveil his newest creation, “Rocky”.
The musical, originally produced and directed by
Jim Sharman, premiered in London, at the Royal Court Theatre (Upstairs) in June
of 1973, moved on to several other locations, and closed in September of
1980. It ran for a total of 2,960
performances, and won the 1973 Evening Standard Award for Best Musical. Its 1974 debut in the
The play was adapted into a film, and released in
1975 as The Rocky Horror Picture Show. The film is the longest-running
release in film history; it has never been pulled from rotation of its original
release, and continues to play in cinemas all over the world. The film, as well as the play, has become the
very definition of a cult classic.
Performers should
come prepared to sing at least 16 bars of a Broadway song from traditional
Broadway or Rock Musical repertoire (shows like The Who’s Tommy, Rent, Next To Normal, and Grease). Rock songs are also
options. No pop or rap songs. Please
bring sheet music written in the key you will perform it – a pianist will be
provided. No recordings or acapella will
be allowed.
Performers should prepare a memorized monologue about
one minute in length for the acting portion of the audition. Come dressed in
appropriate dance clothes and shoes for the dance audition.
Rehearsals
at KHSPAC begin with a read-through of
the play on Tuesday, December 17, 2013. All
actors are required to attend the read-through.
Monday-Friday
rehearsals 3:30pm to 6:30pm; Saturday rehearsals 10:00am to 4:00pm (TBD.) Performances run from Feb.
21 – March 9. Please bring conflict information for Dec. 17 – March 9 to the
auditions.

(Honolulu, Hawaii) We are so excited to perform our fall production of Just So Storytime .
This play is based on three of Rudyard Kipling's Just So Stories: "How the Whale Got His Throat", "The Elephant's Child", and "The Beginning of Armadillos". All three whimsical stories are set in the, "Far off times" at the beginning of the world, and each imagines how different animals came to be the way we see them today. KHSPAC's Acting Studio will share with you the art of Story Theatre. The actors will be “physicalizing” different animals, as well as voicing and manipulating puppets in a varying array of styles.The puppets will represent multicultural themes, including those from Chinese, Indonesia and Indian cultures.Targeted for younger audiences, but fun for all ages, Just So Storytime will be performed on Saturdays, October 26 and November 2 at 7 p.m., with 3 p.m. matinees on Sundays, October 27 and November 3. Kids under three are free, ages 3 to 4 are $3, and students, military and seniors with I.D. are $5. Adult tickets are $10. Box office opens thirty-minutes before each performance for ticket sales.Kaimuki High School is located at 2705 Kaimuki Ave., between Kapahulu Ave. and Kapiolani Blvd.

Kaimuki High School Performing Arts Center loyal
fans likely remember our past performances of Pirates of Penzance, Little Shop of Horrors and Grease, which was our most
recent and successful production to date.
This year we celebrate 26 years on the stage by presenting the Hawaii Viet Nam
Dramatic issues addressed in this show include: whether
beauty is physical or internal; what it is to grow up in a place where, because
of a physical disfigurement, you are considered bad; racial issues in the
Civil-Rights Era South and military, as one of the soldiers is White and the
other Black.
Based on the short story "The Ugliest
Pilgrim" by Doris Betts, this Wizard of Oz-style quest story features
music by Jeanine Tesori, composer of
"Caroline, or Change" and "Thoroughly Modern Millie" and
won the 1997 New York Drama critics Circle Award for Best Musical, the Lucille
Lortel Award for Outstanding Musical, and the Obie Award Special Citation for
Jeanine Tesori's music.
Our enthusiastic and talented actors,
represent various public schools from Hawaii
including Farrington, Kaimuki, Kalani, McKinley and Roosevelt High Schools
and Jarrett and Washington
Middle Schools
Violet will be performed on February 22nd,
23rd and March 1st, 2nd, 8th and 9th
at 7:30 pm. Additional performances are
on February 24th and March 3th and 10th at
3:00 pm. With ID, elementary and high school students,
military and seniors citizens over 65 are $6.
Adult tickets are $12. Box office opens one hour before each performance
for ticket sales. Tickets are also on

“Violet” Dec. 3-5. Students enrolled at
any public school on Oahu are encouraged to
try out. This audition is open to
students from grade 7 to grade 12. Play Production credit available to
qualifying students.
Auditions will be
held Dec. 3 and 4 from 3:00 to 6:30 p.m. at KHSPAC’s auditorium. Callbacks only on Dec. 5, from 2:30-6 p.m.
